About
Any Table Any Room is a performance conceived and created by Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion, which invites four local artists to join them onstage in each new space. For these shows, the two artists will be joined by Janine Fletcher, Claire Godsmark. Sue MacLaine and Scott Smith.
How possible is community? How do we retain our autonomy while being in a group? Using 72 clay objects created by the performers, communal singing and indian drones on smartphones, Any Table Any Room is a gregarious exploration of the pleasures and demands of being and working together.
Dramaturgy by Katie Coe and Nicola Conibere.
Any Table Any Room is supported by public funding through the National Lottery from Arts Council England, and with thanks also to St Anne's Church Lewes, The Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts and the Centre for Dance Research at Coventry University.
Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion have been working together since 1989, and their ongoing series of duets go on touring all around the world, with recent retrospectives in Lisbon, Porto and Philadelphia, and more planned for 2017 in Bologna and Barcelona, as well as a tour of three Australian cities. The work is hard to place, combining intellectual rigour with unexpected humour, but it has its roots in a shared love of classical music, which they clash against an approach to performance that is at once open to audience but also anarchic and joyful.
