About
Haydn String Quartet Op 74 No 1
Janáček String Quartet No 1, ‘Kreutzer Sonata’
Beethoven String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131
The Marman Quartet is blazing a trail in the chamber music world: founded just five years ago, it has already won the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Albert and Eugene Frost Prize and the Ensemble category of the Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition. Its virtuosity is glitteringly showcased in a programme that travels from Haydn, ‘the father of the string quartet’, to Beethoven, whose quartets are the unrivalled masterpieces of the form, via Janáček, one of the 20th century’s most original musical voices.
