Gabrielli Ricercare Nos 7 and 5
Bach Cello Suite No 5 in C minor, BWV 1011
Philip Higham is a major interpreter of the music of Bach; in 2008 he became the first British cellist to win the prestigious International Bach Competition in Leipzig, and last year he won acclaim for his performance of all six of Bach’s immortal Cello Suites at the Wigmore Hall, London. In this exquisite programme, he performs three of the suites alongside ricercare by Gabrielli which, as the first works published for solo cello, surely inspired Bach.
